Title 1 Vision

  • Title I provides support through resources and research-based training, enabling schools to develop high quality, enriched programs that meet the individual needs of all children, families, and staff.

  • By providing a positive, caring environment with high educational expectation, Title I ensures that all individuals feel capable, connected, and able to make worthwhile contributions to their community.

What is Title 1

  • Title I is a federally funded program designed to improve achievement at schools with a high percentage of students eligible for free and reduced priced lunches. To qualify for school wide program status, a school must meet the criteria of a free and reduced lunch percentage of 40% or higher. The Title I project serves  49 public schools and 14 private schools in Brevard County.

Parental Involvement Plan

Brevard Public School 2009-10 Title I  District Parental involvement Plan

TITLE I - PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Research shows that children are more likely to succeed academically and are less likely to engage in violent behavior if their families are involved in their education. Additional studies have found that parental involvement is more important to student success, at every grade level (K-12), than family income or education.

NCLB: Parent's Right to Know Qualifications of Child's Teachers

Did you know you have a right to know the qualifications of your child's teachers and paraprofessionals? Did you know that your school district must notify you of your right to request information about the qualifications of your child's teachers and paraprofessionals?

At the beginning of the school year, the school district must notify parents of all children who attend Title I schools of their right to request information about the qualifications of your child's teachers and paraprofessionals, including:

(1) Whether the teacher has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;

(2) Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived.

(3) The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree.

(4) Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

  • Florida has two Parental Information & Resource Centers (PIRCs) that are federally funded by The US Department of Education to help families and schools throughout the state work collaboratively to increase and improve parental involvement in education.  They provide a wide variety of training and resources to assist us in building home-school partnerships and increase student achievement.  Find out what they have to offer at the following websites:

INVOLVEMENT POEM

 I dreamed I stood in a studio

And watched two sculptors there,

The clay they used was a young child's mind
And they fashioned it with care.

One was a teacher; the tools she used were books and music and art;

One was a parent with a guiding hand and a gentle loving heart.

And when at last their work was done

They were proud of what they had wrought

For the things they had worked into the child

Could never be sold or bought.

And each agreed that she would have failed if she had worked alone

For behind the parent stood the school,

and behind the teacher--the home.
